Awards for the best Pedagogy TFG

On May 17, the delivery of the best Final Degree Projects in Pedagogy for the 2022-2023 academic year at Catalan universities is celebrated.

This event, organized by the Official College of Pedagogy of Catalonia, will take place at the Casa de Cultura de Girona at 6.30 p.m. In this new edition, Berta Martínez Ané has received the prize for the best TFG from the College of Pedagogy. His work was tutored by David Rodríguez-Gómez during the 2022-2023 academic year. It is worth mentioning that Martínez Ané obtained during this same year the Collaboration Scholarship for final year students, where she participated in research activities of the EDO Group, under the supervision of Professor Patricia Olmos Rueda.

Her TFG, titled “Ageism in the educational field: stereotypes and practices of intergenerational contact“, is an investigation into age discrimination (ageism) in secondary school teachers. Specifically, research has focused on identifying stereotypes, understanding the individual and organizational consequences of this discrimination, as well as determining practices to combat it. With the aging population and increasing work longevity, age and knowledge management becomes a crucial factor for organizations. However, the coexistence of multiple generations and age groups in the workplace has led to an increase in age discrimination. In this context, the effective management of contact and intergenerational learning has become an essential element to facilitate spaces where organizational socialization processes occur and help maintain a positive intergenerational climate.

Like any organization, secondary schools are no strangers to the aging of their staff, but research on ageism in the educational context is scarce. For this reason, the interest of the research that has been carried out lies in the fact that it contributes knowledge to an area that is little academically developed. Specifically, a case study has been carried out in a specific educational center, using a qualitative methodology that complements interviews with teachers from different generations and departments, as well as members of the management team. The results obtained describe the intergenerational perception of teachers and the existing intergenerational climate, identifying the intergenerational contact and learning practices that are promoted in the educational center studied.

From CRiEDO we take advantage of this space to congratulate Berta, and encourage her to continue developing her professional activity with the same degree of rigor and excellence.
