Joaquín Gairín Participated in CILME 2026

Joaquín Gairín, director of CRiEDO, together with Mireia Tintoré, presented the paper entitled “Teacher Leadership in the Classroom” at the VII Ibero-American Congress on Leadership and School Improvement (CILME 2026). The event took place in Santiago de Chile from May 28 to 30 and brought together specialists in educational leadership from across Ibero-America.

The contribution by Gairín and Tintoré is framed within the concept of leadership as a collective practice, a perspective that in recent years has fostered the development of distributed leadership and, in particular, teacher leadership within the classroom. This approach emphasizes everyday educational practice, considering both the relationships established in the classroom and the collaborative processes generated within and from educational institutions.

The study presented is based on the contributions of 42 school leaders gathered through a knowledge management group, which has made it possible to explore different dimensions of teacher leadership in depth. Among the most relevant aspects are the focus on leading learning, the role of emotional intelligence, the distribution of protagonism in the classroom, and the importance of ethical, inclusive, and equity-oriented practices.

Likewise, the paper highlights the need for strong professional commitment from teachers and a continuous improvement mindset as key pillars for the development of effective teacher leadership.
