Perception of ethnic prejudice towards Aymara students from the University of Tarapacá, Arica- Chile
The present study aims to identify the levels of subtle and blatant prejudice into Aymara and not Aymara student’s groups from the University of Tarapacá, Arica- Chile.
The methodology seeks to empirically know the phenomenon of prejudice through the questionnaire composed of 20 statements designed to measure these two types of prejudice, in the universal sample consisted of 593 students using the Spanish version, adapted and validated for the Chilean context (Cardenas et al, 2007), of the scale to measure subtle-blatant prejudice to members of other racial groups.
The data analysis shows a presence of high levels of subtle and blatant prejudice in both samples as in Aymara group as in not Aymara group. These negative psychological tendencies implicitly favor the likelihood of conflicts through play exclusionary behavior towards Aymara ethnic.
According to the above, it is possible to extrapolate that our subjects of study have a different perception against the ethnic group, which, in turn, have been characterized as historically excluded.
