Gender and Digital Technologies

New publication that analyzes the integration of digital technologies in the university from a gender perspective.
Cristina Mercader and Maria del Mar Duran-Bellonch have published the article “Female Higher Education Teachers. The publication focuses on analyzing the integration of digital technologies in teaching from a gender perspective. This is a multiple case study in which a quantitative methodology has been followed, with a sample made up of 527 professors from four Spanish universities and the instrument used was a self-administered questionnaire. The results confirm two types of segregation and the fact that female teachers consider themselves less digitally competent than their male counterparts. However, ironically, the results also show that women use digital technologies and communication more in teaching than their male counterparts.
The conclusions suggest the need to analyze in depth the intersection between the digital divide and gender in higher education, as well as the need to take measures during the early stages of education to overcome the tendency of female teachers to underestimate their digital competence. .
