Factors that promote a better acquisition of competences in teacher training

EDO conducts a study on the acquisition of professional skills through the curricular practices of initial training in teaching.
Bearing in mind that the practices are a fundamental part in the training of teaching students, the EDO Group has worked to find out which are the conditions that contribute on an optimal period of formation of curricular practices. For this reason, this study has been carried out with a total of 567 students from four Catalan universities (two public and two private), which focuses specifically on the degrees of Educació Infantil (276 students) and Educació Primària (291 students).
The study, entitled "Acquisition of professional competences through the curricular practices of the initial teachers training", has been funded with the ARMIF program (Millora i Innovació Formació Mestres) of AGAUR (ref. 2014ARMIF00023). The study, that is coordinated by Joaquin Gairín and has the participation of David Rodríguez Gómez, Carmen Armengol and Julio Meneses, aims to identify which are the factors that intervene favourably to the success in the acquisition of skills during the period of teaching practice.
The indicators that have been considered for steel the study have been the socio-demographic characteristics of the student, the ownership of the school where the student practiced, the characteristics of the program of practices, the perception of the impact of this program and the overall satisfaction of the students.
The results obtained let us affirm the positive perception of the impact of the practices regarding the professional development of the future teachers. In this sense, it is important to consider that the link between universities and training centres is directly involved in an improvement of the educational system. In addition, curricular practices are the last step of many students to become themselves real teachers. In this way, it is essential to consolidate new structures and collaboration models that make easy an effective cooperation between all stakeholders.
