A symposium on youth and digital technologies in the classroom, organized within the framework of the US’MOV project, will take place on October 26th and 27th.
The symposium “Young people connected in the classroom: ban, ignore or push” aims to be a meeting point between researchers, educational professionals and society, as well as a space for debate on the challenges generated by the use of cell phones in the field of education. The irruption of this digital technology in our lives, and especially in the lives of young people, has caused certain transformations and, in turn, controversial decisions. Among them, the responses to the use of these cell phones in educational centers stand out, which include the prohibition, lack of definition and promotion of these devices. Professors Cristina Mercader and Alejandra Bosco, member of CRiEDO, are part of the research team of the project coordinated by the University of Barcelona. Cristina Mercader will participate in this symposium as a member of the organizing committee and as a speaker, where she will present the results of the project in relation to “The use of cell phones in schools”.
This event is organized in the framework of the project “Youth and mobiles in the classroom: Discourses and dynamics of prohibition, promotion and indeterminacy” (US’MOV, Project PID2019-108041RB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033), where the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Girona, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the University of Valencia participate. During its trajectory, the project has investigated the use of mobile devices in the classroom from three different perspectives: the positions of the administration and experts, the experience of schools, and the opinions of young people, teachers and families.
