There is a new publication that analyzes mentoring as a system to develop the leadership of school directors.

Mireia Tintoré and Carmen Carrillo have published the article "Mentoring in school director training programs: review of the literature". The publication focuses on the role of mentoring as one of the most effective systems for developing the leadership of school principals.

The published study reviews the literature on mentoring with school principals, offering a systemic view that includes data from previous reviews, contributions from the latest research, and a framework for incorporating mentoring into management training programs. Two objectives guided the development of this research: 1) perform a descriptive analysis of the literature (evolution, location, type of studies) and 2) analyze the factors that affect its effectiveness (conditions for good mentoring, difficulties and benefits).

The methodology followed was based on a review of the literature following the procedures defined for this purpose. The search was carried out in the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases, using the terms "educational mentoring" as the search equation, and academic publications referring to educational mentoring, published between 2000 and 2020, as inclusion criteria. 290 related references were obtained. with educational mentoring, of which 114 documents (39%) refer to mentoring with directors. The final sample, after screening, consists of 48 articles on managerial mentoring. The references were analyzed in depth, showing an increase in studies on managerial mentoring as of 2010, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries and through qualitative research.

The analyzes indicate that the support mechanisms for school directors have received a strong boost in many parts of the world, their percentage importance has increased with respect to other types of mentoring and they are a key element in management training programs. The published article also includes an analysis of the effects of mentoring on the participants and recommendations to include this strategy in management training programs.
