Quality Assurance in Higher Education

New study explores obstacles to quality assurance in higher education in Yunnan, China.

The article titled “Obstacles to the Functioning of Third-Party Agencies as Higher Education Quality Assurance Bodies in Yunnan, China” has been written by Xiaoling Hu, David Rodríguez-Gómez, and Diego Castro-Ceacero, both members of CRiEDO.

The article explores the challenges faced by third-party agencies as quality assurance (QA) bodies for higher education in Yunnan Province, China. Through a qualitative case study, the authors identified that these agencies primarily function as administrative tools affiliated with the government and face deficits in trust and autonomy. Additionally, they lack formal legislation, legal status, authority, and independence, and suffer from a shortage of experts and accountability mechanisms.

This work provides valuable empirical evidence for policymakers on QA reform and expands knowledge on QA governance. Furthermore, it offers a foundation for addressing similar issues in other provincial contexts.
