Mireia Tintoré has presented a communication at the World Education Leadership Symposium-WELSfocus.

Professor Mireia Tintoré, from EDO-UIC, together with professors Arturo Galán, from UNED, and Inmaculada Egido and Elvira Congosto, from UCM, have presented a communication at the World Education Leadership Symposium-WELSfocus, held this year virtually and organized by Prof. Dr. Stephan Gerhard Huber from the Institute for the Management and Economics of Education, University of Teacher Education Zug (Switzerland) in cooperation with various partners from other universities, associations of directors and teachers, ministries and other authorities.

The presentation took place within the framework of a round table on the effects of COVID-19 on education and was entitled “Educational leadership in vulnerable contexts. Principals in the age of COVID-19 ”. The work presented is part of a research project on leadership for the integral development of children in disadvantaged contexts, sponsored by the European Foundation Society and Education (Spain) and by the Center for Studies on Portuguese-Speaking Peoples and Cultures (Portugal), with the support of Porticus, an international organization that manages and develops projects of these characteristics. (REF. EFSE / 020182022).

The research analyzes the competencies developed by a group of primary and secondary school managers in the early moments of the crisis (March to May 2020) and to what extent these competencies coincide with those described by the academic literature on crisis management. Of the 19 competencies described by the specialists, 18 were developed in a natural way by the managers under study, who were unaware of the literature on the matter. Focusing on the present and attending to people's emotions and feelings were priorities in those early moments of the pandemic.
