Presentation of the report “integral security in compulsory education schools in Spain”

The study provides an overview of the Integral Security level of primary / secondary schools of public / private characters. Through SAQ EDURISC , it has analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of about 300 schools, while also identifying main risks and dangers.

According to the report, most Spanish schools are adequate in safety, a very positive development not only manifests in an appropriate conservation and maintenance of facilities, cleanliness and comfort of the various educational spaces, but also in other very important factors for the operation of educational institutions it is optimal.

By contrast, the most common unresolved problems are: inadequate lightening and acoustic conditions in classrooms, inadequate dimensions of the spaces respecting to the number of students that occupies the space, the presence of architectural barriers and lack of safety glass in doors and windows.

To promote safety and health in schools it is recommended to include it in educational programs to help generate content and conduct safe and healthy habits among students, involving teachers and families in the process. It is necessary that the educational community share values and principles related to security, which is part of institutional culture, as through organizational and operational decisions it can promote increased safety in schools.

Researchers from other universities around the state have actively participated and collaborated in the research: Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad de Alcala de Henares, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Universidad de Deusto, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Zaragoza and University Seville.
