Some EDO-UAB members have published two chapters in the book “Multidimensional Perspectives on Principal Leadership Effectiveness”.

It’s been released a new book published by IGI Global “Multidimensional Perspectives on Principal Leadership Effectiveness”. Its editors, Kadir Beycioglu from Dokuz Eylul University and Petros Pashiardis from Open University of Cyprus, have combined best practices and latest approaches in school administration and management. This book is focused on exploring the challenges faced by principals, as well as the impact of new managerial tactics being employed. The EDO members have collaborated in following chapters:

“Analysis of the tasks of school principals in secondary education in Catalonia: Case study”, written by Ion, Tomàs, Castro and Salat, where they present a description of the Catalonian educational system, its leadership and managerial model from a double perspective: the normative requirements and the day-to-day tasks. The chapter is conducted by the analysis of the professional diaries of all the secondary School Principals from Sant Cugat (Barcelona) and tries to relate the daily tasks to those tasks identified in the local and national school regulations and in the Education Law. The main goal of this analysis is to understand how the distribution of principal’s activities and their time management is related to the requirements proposed by the Education Administration.

“Considering Latin American School Management from a Skill-Based Perspective”, written by Gairín, Barrera-Corominas y Fernández-de-Álava. This chapter presents, from a detailed analysis of the legislation of 10 Latin American countries, activities and tasks assigned to school principals from a competency perspective. The results show that in many of these countries, the activities and roles assigned to principals are still administrative nature, although in some cases they are starting to work with competencies linked to tasks related to their environment, professional development or pedagogical leadership.
