Higher education and socio-economic development

Dissertation thesis by William Eduardo Pulido focused on young people with low resources in Bogotá.
PhD William Eduardo Pulido Talero has defended the dissertation thesis "Educación superior y desarrollo socioeconómico: utopía o realidad para jóvenes de bajos recursos de Bogotá. Estudio de caso ingeniería industrial Uniminuto, Colombia", directed by Dr. Carme Armengol, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, framed within the Doctorate in Education studies.
The objective of Pulido Talero was to know the impact of the extension of coverage and permanence in higher education, of young people from low strata of Bogotá, to improve the socio-economic level of their families, through the quantitative evaluation of senior students (2015 and 2016) and graduates of Industrial Engineering.
The inclusion and permanence in the studies of this group, is mainly related to their interest in having a better future, higher income, and better quality of life, as well as the costs of their studies and at the same time that they can allocate.
In Bogotá, despite being a population of more than eight million inhabitants, of those who graduate with the baccalaureate about 560,000 students, only 10% enter the University and only 7% access technical and technological education. For this reason, precisely with the National Development Plan (DNP) 2014-2018, it is expected that education will become one of the axes that most impact the levels of social and economic welfare.
The defense took place at 5:30 p.m. in the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Education and the doctoral student has achieved the grade of outstanding.
