Diego Castro and Joaquín Gairín participate in the 25th FEAE Annual Meeting “Social Assessment of education”.
In the context of the activities promoted by the Spanish European Forum of Administators of Education (FEAE), EDO members Diego Castro and Joaquín Gairín have participated in the 25th FEAE Annual Meeting, which have been celebrated in Madrid last 2nd and 3rd of October 2015. This year, under the theme “Social Assessment of education”, the meeting took place in an associate centre of UNED in Madrid, in the popular neighbourhood of Lavapiés and it counted on the participation of 150 professionals from different regional Forums of the country. Also, the current president of the European Forum on Educational Education (EFEA) Ana Patricia Almeida has participated in the Meeting.
EDO’s contribution in this meeting has been oriented in presenting the progress of IDEAS Project in Costa Rica, specifically they presented the average of the students drop out in Costa Rica during 2012 and in all 80 educational centres linked to PROEDUCA, which was 25.48%. This number expose how hard is to achieve an acceptable rate on academic performance and how the authorities propose plans to reduce this abandonment rates; especially in the critical period of secondary education. In this context, the Ministry of Education of Costa Rica and the European Union announced an international call to enhance different organizations all over the world to design improvement proposals.
That’s how IDEAS project was born (Project of Initiatives for Educational and Socio community Development), which tries to improve continuous rates of the secondary education students in Costa Rica. The operative objectives are: 1) Designing a comprehensive handbook of orientation and tutoring focused on attending night-shift students; 2) Developing actions of curricular development, organizational development, professional development and community development centred on educational institutions; and 2) Discussing and spreading results through communities of professional practice. The purpose is structured in different phases: elaborating a diagnosis about the situation of the school abandonment in night-shift schools; designing a model of intervention, training teachers, head-teachers and technicians who work on adult education; assessing improvement institutional plans and spreading this experience and making it institutionalize. The project is still in development, so it only can be presented some preliminary results and partial achievements.
Moreover, Diego Castro and Joaquín Gairín participated in the scientific committee of the event not only as EDO members but also as vice-president of FEAE Catalonia and as a co-founder, respectively.
