Doctoral Thesis Defense: Analysis of the Barriers to the Development of Tutorial Action in Higher Music Education Institutions in Catalonia

On February 3rd, 2026, researcher Anna Huertas López defended her doctoral thesis, “Analysis of the Barriers to the Development of Tutorial Action in Higher Music Education Institutions in Catalonia,” supervised by Diego Castro Ceacero.

The defense took place in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Education Sciences, and the examination committee was composed of Belén Sáenz Rico de Santiago, Ernesto Gómez López, and José Luís Muñoz Moreno.

The thesis focuses on analysing the development of tutoring in higher music education schools in Catalonia through a multicase study. Through an extensive, dense, and wide-ranging multicase study of four higher music education schools in Catalonia, it explores the barriers that make it a scarcely implemented pedagogical practice, the underlying causes, and some proposals for improvement.
