Last week marked the start of the 20th edition of the ECIU Leadership Development Programme with a four-day seminar at Linköping University (Sweden).
This programme, celebrating two decades of training future university leaders, brings together 20 participants from 10 ECIU member universities, including administrative staff, researchers, and faculty.
Among the participants in this edition is David Rodríguez, professor and researcher at CRiEDO, who joins this initiative focused on leadership and university management.
For 20 years, ECIU has promoted this programme with the aim of preparing its future leaders. The training is led by Harry De Boer and Barend van der Meulen, experts from the Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente.
The first of the three seminars in the programme focused on:
- Developing personal leadership styles
- The latest trends in European higher education policy, including the European Universities Initiative
- Organisational cultures and leadership styles within universities
- Insights into Linköping University: interviews with leadership and an innovation showcase from LiU
- Introduction to challenge-based learning
The second seminar will take place in January 2026 at Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), while the final seminar will be held in Brussels in March 2026, coinciding with the ECIU Council meeting.
