Communities of Practice

New publication that analyzes the role of Communities of Practice as generators of informal learning in Public Administrations.
The public administrations must guarantee the maximum efficiency of the resources that the company puts at their disposal and, at the same time, favor the full personal and professional development of their employees. The Lisbon Declaration, promulgated by the European Commission in 2000, encouraged all member states to initiate actions to increase the quality and efficiency quotas of the system.
The publication that is presented, "Communities of Practice in Public Administration. Transfer of informal learning" is the result of a study whose purpose has been to assess, from the opinions of the participants, the variables that influence the process of transfer to the workplace of the informal learning acquired through Professional Practice Communities in Public administration. The results obtained, although they cannot be generalized, allow us to understand how the organizational variables, the design of the training and the participants themselves intervene in the transfer of the learning that is informally generated within the CoP. Likewise, guidelines are presented that can be followed by the managers of the CoP to achieve a better adaptation of the work context to facilitate the transfer of learning and thus increase the impact they have on the work place of the participants.
Aleix Barrera-Corominas, the author, is a Senior Research Technician linked to the EDO group and associate professor of the Department of Applied Pedagogy at the UAB. This work is the result of the doctoral thesis entitled " The Transfer of the acquired learning in Communities of Practice in the Public Administration ", which obtained the valuation of "Extraordinary Prize of the Doctorate program in Quality and Processes of Educational Innovation" in the edition 2016
The publication has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the National Institute of Public Administrations, through the 2017 announcement of the 2016 and 2017 INAP Awards for doctoral theses.
