A New Tool to Measure Digital Impact in Schools

CRiEDO members and professors Cristina Mercader and Diego Castro have published a new article in the international journal Science & Education titled “After the Storm: an Instrument to Measure the Impact of Digital Technologies in Schools.”

The article presents and validates an innovative instrument designed to analyze the impact of digital technologies in educational institutions, particularly following the period of emergency remote teaching caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The instrument, known as QUIT, evaluates three key dimensions: the teaching-learning process, organizational elements, and barriers and limitations.

To validate the tool, a study was conducted involving 1,300 teachers from various regions of Spain, which provided valuable data on how schools perceive and manage digital innovation. The article emphasizes the need for cyclical evaluation of the impact of digital technologies in order to adjust educational policies, teacher training, and school management to a constantly evolving environment—especially with the rise of generative artificial intelligence.

This work makes a significant contribution to the debate on digital transformation in education and offers a practical tool for schools, policymakers, and teacher educators.
