Abstract In recent years, soft skills acquisition during university education has been the focus of attention in educational research. The present study has the following purposes: to know which soft skills have been evaluated in university education, to describe the strategies or instruments used to evaluate these skills in the university context and to know to what extent gamification is used to evaluate soft skills. We used the PRISMA method to elaborate on systematic reviews to achieve these purposes.
The studies were classified according to a checklist for their contrast in the data analysis, highlighting the similarities or differences. The review’s findings helped us understand the variety of scholarly works that have been written about this subject, the kinds of soft skills that have been assessed, application strategies, evaluation types, and instruments that have been used, as well as how gamification, serious games, and technological tools have been incorporated into the methodological process. Finally, this review aims to contribute to obtaining a deeper conceptual overview of the topic of study and thus lay the theoretical foundations for further research on the assessment of this type of skill in higher education, as well as to inquire about an alternative scheme for their implementation in the Latin American context.
