In the current context, the most significant challenges that educational institutions must assume in relation to their organizational processes are linked, among others, to greater internal and external openness that enables the establishment of collaboration networks, to structural modifications that provide organizations with the necessary flexibility to promote innovations and to cultural changes that, in coherence with the necessary organizational openness and structural flexibility, promote greater internal and external collaboration in educational institutions. In this framework, Knowledge Management, as a strategy linked to innovation and organizational development, emerges as an important field of practice and research in the organizational field. The development of Knowledge Creation and Management processes in educational organizations can represent a qualitative leap, yet to be proven, both in the way of understanding this type of organization and in the quality of its processes and results. However, there are few experiences and proposals on this type of strategies that are developed from an educational perspective and, specifically, from school organization and management. The objective of this work is, therefore: (1) to fill the existing literary gap on knowledge management and organizational development in and from the field of educational organizations, and (2) to integrate in a single work some of the main disciplines linked to knowledge management (i.e., organizational development, organizational learning, professional development, organizational culture and intellectual capital).
