Academic research in social sciences from a gender perspective is a research project developed by the research team Cambio de Cultura de la Universidad Contemporánea (CCUC), led by Dr. Marina Tomàs-Folch, attached to the Department of Applied Pedagogy of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The purpose of the study is to understand the perception and experiences of women who lead established research teams, that is, those researchers who have been successful. The interpretive methodology has been used, using the in-depth interview technique. The results related to the conditions, characteristics, pressures and circumstances in which women lead research teams are presented. This study is preceded by others on the leadership exercised in academic positions at the university or the barriers and opportunities for promotion that female university professors have. Following several studies that have taken the university and the way in which women exercise this leadership as a reference, certain converging tendencies are emerging in their way of acting, whether they carry out the research, teaching or management function: commitment, care of interpersonal relationships, teamwork, concern for the promotion of the members of their team, self-demand and a constant concern for the quality of their achievements. The book will be of interest to people who are linked to the university, those who are concerned about the leadership of research groups or about the research task itself, and those who wonder about the nature of research in social areas.
