The study of school effectiveness and climate has a longer tradition in the Anglo-Saxon world than in Latin America. However, in the last decade, research has also been advancing strongly in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. The relevance of these works in our context is indisputable from two points of view: on the one hand, as a rigorous method to advance in the scientific knowledge of the Sciences of Education. On the other, as a source to know the situation of our schools based on the perceptions of teachers and the results of students, so that paths can be discovered for the improvement of Education and the functioning of schools.
Well, this work is the result of the research effort of a group of university professors with several funded projects on this subject concerned with the description and improvement of our teaching centers.
Mario Martín Bris, expert in school organization and planning and specialist in work climate, a field in which he has numerous publications, is a Professor at the University of Alcalá and has led this line of research in his Department for more than five years.
Professor Arturo González Galán, an expert in evaluation and research methodology, is currently working at UNED after a two-year stay at the University of Alcalá. He completed his doctoral thesis on the relationships between quality, effectiveness and climate, work that was the main starting point of this research, especially in the methodological aspects.
Juan Carlos Torrejo Seijo, after a long and fruitful career in the Department of Education of the Community of Madrid combining it with university teaching, has joined the Department of Education of the University of Alcalá as a Senior Lecturer, where he trains future educational psychologists and teachers. He is a renowned specialist in the subject of treatment and mediation of conflicts in schools and in school organization.
Finally, on this occasion, the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Applied Pedagogy of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Carme Armengol Asparó, an expert in organizational culture, has joined the group.
