Interest in defining the quality of our country’s education system has increased in recent years, especially with the announcement and subsequent promulgation of the Law on the Quality of Education, which aims to resolve the imbalances that have been detected in the LOGSE. But the concept of educational quality or of a quality education is subject to different interpretations, all of them coloured by diverse ideological conceptions that contribute to education different purposes. What is meant by the best education? How is the best education measured? What are the educational parameters that are valued and controlled? What are the educational priorities to advance or achieve a better education for all? The present text, aware of this situation, tries to facilitate reflection and debate on the future of education in Spain and to do so presents diverse reflections on the meaning that current and former politicians, trade unionists, academics and scholars of the subject give to quality. Their rich and fundamental contributions open up a wide range of interpretations that, far from increasing the polysemy of the term, help to understand its different aspects. Reflecting and acting in a new society demands a new theory of school, new educational models, new organizational forms, professionals with diverse skills and more active users. Moving forward along these lines can be considered the basic aim of this book.
