On Friday, 16 January 2026, the online seminar “Academic leaders’ discourses on the incorporation of generative AI in university teaching” took place, organised within the framework of the EdU-InA project.
The session, held via Microsoft Teams, brought together teaching staff, researchers and institutional leaders interested in the impact of generative artificial intelligence on higher education.
This seminar was the second webinar in the series “Generative AI educational policies and practices”, promoted by the project with the aim of sharing research advances linked to its Specific Objectives. On this occasion, the meeting focused on Specific Objective 2.1, dedicated to analysing the discourses and positions of academic leaders regarding the incorporation of generative AI into university teaching.
The session opened with the keynote lecture “Beyond prohibition: AI and quality in higher education”, delivered by Mercè Gisbert Cervera, Director of the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU Catalunya). In her presentation, she addressed the main challenges that generative AI poses for university systems and emphasised the need to move towards approaches that integrate technology from a perspective of quality, responsibility and institutional improvement.
Subsequently, members of the project’s research team presented preliminary results related to Specific Objective 2.1. Ana Guerrero and Micaela De Armas (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Fernando Lara (University of Granada) and Rosa Sobrino (Complutense University of Madrid) took part, presenting initial evidence on the perceptions, concerns and strategies of university governing teams regarding the integration of generative AI in teaching.
The session concluded with an open dialogue with participants, moderated by Amal Elasri (Open University of Catalonia), which allowed for further discussion of the topics addressed and the sharing of reflections from different institutional contexts.
The EdU-InA project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (PID2023-149069OA-I00), aims to contribute to the integration of generative AI in universities based on scientific evidence, ethics and equity, and will continue to develop dissemination activities to share its results with the academic community.
