EDO-UAB will coordinate a new project, funded by the European Union, which objective is to promote the future careers and education of the Bio sector in Europe.

On May 1st began the development of the project "UrBIOfuture - Boosting future careers, education and research activities in the European bio-based industry", which will be coordinated by Professor Joaquín Gairín from the UAB, and financed by the European Union, through the Bio-Based Industries consortium, and within the framework of the Horizon 2020 program, with an amount of € 946,586.

Given the European strategy of positioning Europe as a world leader in the Bio sector, the objectives proposed by the UrBIOfuture project are aimed at: (1) mapping the current educational programs that develop their curriculum focused on the Bioindustrial sector; (2) achieve alignment between educational and research institutions and the industrial sector; and (3) Identify the current gaps between the training offer and the real needs of professionals and companies in the sector; and (4) propose a tool to promote vocations in the Bio sector, in what is going to be called "UrBIOfuture Experience".

The following institutions will participate in the project: Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Itàlia), Taknologian Tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy (Finland), Agro Business Park AS (Denmark), Fundacion Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (Spain), Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologish Onderzoek N.V. (Belgium), Stichting IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (Netherlands), Sustainable Innovations Europe SL (Spain) and Fundacja Uniwersytetyu im Adama Michiewicza W Poznaniu (Poland). Furthermore, UAB's Research Park and CORE in Education and Ocupability will collaborate in the project development.
