The IESALC 2024 Report highlights the challenges and opportunities of higher education at a global scale.
The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) has released its 2024 Report, a comprehensive analysis of trends, challenges, and proposals for transforming higher education in a global context marked by uncertainty, digitalization, and persistent inequalities.
The report places special emphasis on the need to rethink the role of universities as agents of social change, highlighting the importance of equity, sustainability, and inclusion as key pillars of educational policy. It also stresses the urgency of adapting higher education systems to technological changes, particularly in relation to artificial intelligence, hybrid education, and lifelong learning.
Among the most relevant conclusions, IESALC proposes:
- Strengthening international collaboration between institutions to address global challenges.
- Ensuring universal access to higher education through policies that reduce social and digital gaps.
- Promoting research and innovation as drivers of sustainable development.
- Reviewing university governance models to encourage participation from the educational community.
At CRiEDO, we welcome the publication of this report as a valuable tool for reflection and action within our research lines, especially regarding educational quality, teacher training, and curriculum transformation.
