On June 6, professor and director of CRiEDO Joaquín Gairín participated in the III International Educational Management Congress with the conference “Management and leadership: two sides of the same coin? Dilemmas and challenges.”
The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) in Santiago was the host of the third edition of the International Congress of Educational Management. The event, organized by the Escuela de Pedagogia de la PUCV and the Red de Apoyo a la Gestión Educativa (RedAGE), brought together academics, researchers and undergraduate and graduate students from all over Latin America.
The congress focused on topics such as direction and leadership, the new administration of Chilean public education and the importance of systemic leadership. During the opening day, David Contreras, general director of Environmental Relations of the PUCV, emphasized the university’s commitment to excellence and service.
In his talk titled “Management and leadership: two sides of the same coin?” Dilemmas and challenges”, Dr. Joaquín Gairin, academic and researcher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and president of RedAGE, highlighted the importance of leadership in educational management. According to Gairin, managers can be influential if they work in a certain way and orient their activity towards change, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
