The Department of Culture and the Department of Health have promoted the first call for “Eixart: Art and Health” to develop an artistic research, mediation and production project in four primary health care centers (CAP) in Catalonia. This program encourages the participation of the health community, including users, family members and health center professionals, to promote the transfer of knowledge between the cultural and health fields.

The four selected projects will be launched from September in CAPs de Vic, Amposta, Mataró and Lleida, in collaboration with contemporary art centres: La Panera, AcVIC, MAC Mataró and Lo Pati. These centers have been chosen to serve people and groups with greater vulnerability. The binomial centers of art-CAP have a driving group made up of representatives of health centers, art centers, the Department of Culture, the Public Health Agency of Catalonia and the general coordinator of the project.

The call revolves around four themes: loneliness, pain and care, the care of carers and the social determinants of health, addiction and chronic diseases. Among the selected artists is Gemma París, who will develop the “Als marges” project. This project seeks to merge knowledge of art and health, creating a space for dialogue between artists, scientists and patients from the Magraners health center and the La Panera art center in Lleida. “Als marges” focuses on plant species considered weeds, claiming them as essential for the coexistence of different species. The research will be community based, exploring textile art and botany through the life stories of the participants, linked to the agricultural heritage of the territory of Lleida.
