This study investigated the assumptions of job demands resources theory (JD-R) in the context of secondary school of public and private sectors in Pakistan. This research examines the negative association of job demands (role ambiguity, time pressure, work overload) with work motivation and job performance. It examines that how emotional exhaustion (EE) as a strain directly impact on job performance and work motivation. The study explored the emotional exhaustion as a mediation between job demands (role ambiguity, time pressure, work overload) motivation and performance. In additional, the study investigated the role of supportive leadership style (SLS) as moderator which buffered the negative impact of job demands on emotional exhaustion. So, with the help of studying the background of all the variables, and a detailed overview of empirical literature available, this study proposes a novel relationship of role ambiguity, time pressure, work overload with organizational deviance, with emotional exhaustion as mediator and supportive leadership style as moderator. The data was collected through a survey from 722 respondents by using convince sampling technique. For testing the proposed hypothesis PLS-SEM was used. A five-point Likert scale was used to gather the responses from public and private secondary school teachers who were teaching at 9th and 10th grade. The finding of this research study showed that job demands (role ambiguity, time pressure, work overload) significantly contribute to reducing the work motivation and job performance of teachers. Similarly, emotional exhaustion as a strain significantly creates the negative impact on motivation and performance. Further, research identifies that emotional exhaustion mediates significantly among job demands (role ambiguity, time pressure, work overload), work motivation and job performance. It also has shown that how supportive leadership moderate among independent variables and mediator. Moreover, this study contributes to exploring the similarities and dissimilarities in public and private sector in Pakistan.
