The project entitled "Incorporation of experiences of professional artists in the Degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education for the development of artistic thinking in initial training" is coordinated by the teacher and artist Gemma Paris Romia (CRiEDO - Didactics Department of Musical, Plastic and Visual Expression). body) and the teachers Sílvia Blanch (Department of Basic, Evolutionary and Educational Psychology), Almudena Martín (Didactic Department of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression) and Maite Mas (Department of Basic, Evolutionary and Educational Psychology) participate.

The objective of this project is to actively promote the presence of creative thinking in the degrees of Early Childhood and Primary Education at the UAB, through the incorporation of training sessions carried out by professional artists who provide aesthetic experiences and art thinking in the initial training of Teachers. , in subjects of the art specialty, but also in some core subjects of the Degrees.

Art thinking (Camnnitzer, 2017; Acaso, 2019) is a strategy that allows the use of art and creativity to change teaching-learning strategies in the classroom. It is a space from which to address contemporary problems, a way of acting, a space for knowledge and emotional accompaniment, and a vehicle for critical knowledge. He wants to place this thinking art in the Faculty through the presence of professional artists in the training of teachers. Currently, the students have very little contact with the cultural world and with creative experiences, and it is believed necessary to open the doors of the Faculty so that artistic works and their creators collaborate in the training of Teachers, creating learning sessions between the educational world and the artistic world, creating links between the professional world and the field of initial training.

In this way, the students will be able to incorporate in their initial training the potentialities that art can offer to education; and the artists will be able to better understand the educational context in which they sometimes participate, either as resident artists or citizens.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, a pilot program designed from the “Interstice. Encounters between artists, children and educators” where peer learning scenarios are being designed and evaluated between artists, teachers and students of Early Childhood and Primary Education Degrees, to place visual arts and performing arts in educational contexts. Pedagogical materials are being produced that place university education in this type of paradigm, and we train with contemporary artists within the framework of the subject Territories of Contemporary Art as Learning Spaces, in the Performative Mention of the Arts.

This new teaching innovation project wants to have an impact not only within the framework of the subjects of the area, but also in subjects of the Degree unrelated to artistic expression, with the aim of training students who do not choose the Performative Arts Mention in the critical and creative thinking that learning brings through the aesthetic experiences proposed by professional artists.

The aid will be allocated to two training scenarios:

  1. Subject of Territories of Contemporary Art as Learning Spaces, of the Performative Mention of the Arts, Degree in Early Childhood Education and Degree in Primary Education. This is the main scenario in which the innovation aid will be developed. Through the aid, it will be possible to work collaboratively with professional artists and visit various exhibitions and performances in different cultural institutions.
  2. Subject Educational Inclusion: Specific educational needs, in the Degree of Early Childhood Education. We are also interested in focusing on subjects that are not typical of the artistic field, in order to work on artistic thought in other fields. Art can provide an inclusive approach to the reality that surrounds us, and within the framework of this subject we want to incorporate some sessions with professional artists and/or visits to cultural centers to bring students closer to the educational paradigm of education through Arts.

The teaching team also includes Professor Almudena Martín, from the Plastic Arts unit who is a teacher in the visual arts subjects of the Degree in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, and Professor Maite Mas, from the Department of Basic, Evolutionary and of Education, who teaches the subjects Educational Processes and Learning in the 2nd year of GEI and Special Educational Needs in learning processes in the 4th year of GEI.
