Basically, the project aims to provide a state-level x-ray of the state of affairs in relation to comprehensive security in educational centers. More specifically, we want to focus attention on compulsory education centers, as this is universal, and massively involve the entire population between the ages of 6 and 16. The study takes as reference, therefore, Primary Education centers (although they include the Early Childhood Education stage) and Compulsory Secondary Education centers (although they include post-compulsory studies).
The general objective of the project is formulated:
- Identify the weaknesses in compulsory education centers in Spain in relation to the issues of their comprehensive security.
As specific objectives we have considered formulating the following:
- Identify the main security risks in educational centers.
- Identify the most appropriate policies, actions and initiatives in relation to prevention and comprehensive security.
- Prepare a decalogue based on the conclusions of the study with proposals for improving safety in educational centers in Spain and accident prevention.
To address the field work we intend to divide the territory into 4 large areas to ensure its viability and representativeness. We will carry out a mixed methodological approach where qualitative and quantitative elements will be combined. More specifically, we intend to carry out a triangulation of: 1) Comprehensive Security Questionnaire, recently validated by the requesting team itself; 2) Discussion groups to be held in the 4 established areas and, 3) Analysis of documents and written sources (regulations and legislation, policies and actions, specific literature, etc.).
The final product will be, on the one hand, the practical validation of an instrument for diagnosing comprehensive security in the educational field; also the possibility of carrying out a diagnosis of the situation of the subject in Spain and of being able to organize conclusions that allow guiding future actions, policies and initiatives.
The added value of the project could be linked to the opening of a rigorous line of research on issues of prevention and comprehensive security in educational centers. The limited relevance that these issues have had so far in educational centers does not escape our consideration, so delving into this issue theoretically and empirically would generate clear added value.
Likewise, the interdisciplinary approach brings us closer to a work model that is absolutely necessary in the educational field: the experience of technicians and experts in matters of safety and prevention, together with academics and experts in the educational field.
Finally, we consider as a value the possibility of providing a series of conclusions and recommendations that are easily applicable in the compulsory education centers of our country.
