The UAB improves positions in the Shanghai ranking

The UAB is among the 201 and 300 best universities in the world
The UAB is ranked among the 201 and the 300 best universities in the world according to the prestigious Shanghai ranking (ARWU), improving last year's position - which ran between 301 and 400 - and thus becoming the second best Catalan university Positioned in this ranking that analyzes 1,800 universities around the world.
According to the new edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) - known as Shanghai's ranking that analyzes some 1,800 universities around the world and publishes the ranking of the top 1,000, the UAB stands among the 201 positions and the 300 best of the world, improving the position over the past year, which was below, in the range of 301 to 400 best universities.
This means that UAB is the second best positioned Catalan university and is placed in second position together with the Complutense of Madrid, Granada and Valencia, among the Spanish universities that have entered the ranking, only behind the UB, which is again ranked among the 101 and 200 best.
A little further behind, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Pompeu Fabra University, which are in the segment of universities 301-400.
In total, Spain places 13 centers among the best 500 universities in the world. Thus, in addition to those mentioned, the Polytechnic of Valencia, Oviedo, Seville, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Zaragoza are also listed in the positions between 401-500.
Once again, the world ranking is leading by American universities. The first positions are for Harvard and Stanford, while Cambridge is third.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was first published in June 2003. ARWU considers six objective indicators to classify universities: the number of students and professors awarded with the Nobel Prize or with the Fields Medal, the number of articles High impact scientists selected by Thomson Reuters, the number of articles published in the Nature and Science journals, the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and the relative performance of each university.
