Participation in the 1st AEPDA Conference on Teaching Methodology and Innovation

Cristina Mercader, member of CRiEDO and co-coordinator of the EdU-InA project, participated in the roundtable discussion “Artificial Intelligence and Law: Challenges for Teaching and Legal Practice” within the framework of the 1st AEPDA Conference on Teaching Methodology and Innovation.

On 1 and 2 October 2026, the 1st AEPDA Conference on Teaching Methodology and Innovation was held at Casa Convalescència of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, organized by the Spanish Association of Administrative Law Professors (AEPDA), the UAB, and the Enric Prat de la Riba Chair of Local Legal Studies. This first edition was devoted to “Local Law and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges for Teaching and Legal Practice.”

The conference brought together experts from the legal and academic fields to reflect on innovation in legal education and on some of the key challenges currently affecting legal training and professional practice. The programme was structured around two main themes: the role and development of local law, and the transformations arising from the integration of artificial intelligence.

In this context, on 2 October, Cristina Mercader, Associate Professor of Educational Technology at the UAB and co-coordinator of the EdU-InA project, took part in the roundtable discussion “Artificial Intelligence and Law: Challenges for Teaching and Legal Practice”, together with Sergi Robles Martínez, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the UAB. The session was moderated by Julián Valero Torrijos, Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Murcia.

The roundtable focused specifically on the implications of artificial intelligence for higher education teaching and legal practice. The discussion addressed the opportunities offered by these technologies, as well as their limitations and the methodological and ethical requirements involved in their implementation in both fields.
