UAB professors present the Orienta4VET Interactive Guide at the 5th Barcelona Conference on Education.
From November 12 to 16, 2024, professors Marisol Galdames Calderón and Cecilia Suárez Rivarola from the Autonomous University of Barcelona participated in the 5th Barcelona Conference on Education, presenting their paper “The Orienta4VET Interactive Guide: A Tool for Guidance in Vocational Education and Training”. This presentation is part of the transnational Erasmus+ project Orienta4VET, which aims to improve vocational education and training (VET) pathways in Europe.
The project focuses on analyzing the risk factors affecting early school leaving in five contexts: Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Romania, and Catalonia. Based on interviews and focus groups conducted in 21 VET centers (eight of them in Catalonia), 70 risk factors were identified and classified into five dimensions: personal, family, social-relational, institutional, and structural-systemic.
The Orienta4VET Interactive Guide is a practical tool designed to help VET counselors, administrators, and tutors address these factors effectively, proposing specific strategies based on the needs of each center. With this tool, the project not only provides concrete solutions for improving vocational education but also contributes to European public education policies.
The contribution of professors Marisol Galdames Calderón and Cecilia Suárez Rivarola highlights the importance of an interdisciplinary and innovative approach in educational guidance to enhance the academic success of VET students. This presentation demonstrated how the Orienta4VET project can be a replicable model for other regions interested in strengthening their vocational education and training systems.
