Cristina Mercader to Participate in the “25 Years of InfoK” Conference

Professor Cristina Mercader, member of CRiEDO, will participate in the conference “25 Years of InfoK. The Challenge of Informing Children in the Digital Environment”, which will take place on October 23 at the Faculty of Communication Studies of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

The children’s news program reached its 25th anniversary on April 23, and the conference, co-organized with the CCMA, will be held in October in the main auditorium of the Faculty of Communication Studies at UAB. The conference is curated by Professor Marta Narberhaus, from the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, who has also edited a collective book on the 25th anniversary of InfoK that will be presented during the event.

The conference program includes three round tables structured around three thematic axes, featuring experts from the academic, educational, and journalistic fields. Notably, the opening keynote lecture will be delivered by Lewis James, editor of the children’s news program Newsround at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which was a pioneer in this field in Europe when it first aired in 1972. The closing session will consist of a participatory debate in which children themselves will have the opportunity to share their perspectives.

The conference will also feature professionals linked to InfoK, such as journalists Manel Alías, Laia Servera, and its current director, Núria Vilanova. On the academic side, researchers from across Spain will take part, experts in children and media, education, communication, and psychology, including David Bueno (University of Barcelona); Mónica Figueras (Pompeu Fabra University); Salvi Canadell (Digital Culture Area, Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia); José Alberto García Avilés (Miguel Hernández University); Cristina Mercader and Santiago Giraldo (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona); Sara Malo (University of Girona); and Miguel Ángel Casado (University of the Basque Country).
