This book aims to motivate European vocational education teachers and help them to actively engage in human rights education, in addition to their training work in the technical field.
Chapter 1 presents the project from which this book was born, and gives an idea of the visions and achievements achieved during its development. This chapter also contains some frequently asked questions about human rights and analyses their development and importance today.
Chapter 2 provides an ethical approach to education in vocational education centres. It also provides an overview of the foundations of ethical education in human rights, and shows some aspects of human rights linked to vocational education technology.
One of the most innovative sections of the manual is Chapter 3, devoted to the hidden curriculum. A new concept developed to provide teachers with a basis of information and methodology to relate technology to human rights in appropriate learning situations.
Chapter 4 describes the new “human rights ambassadors” and their important role as multipliers and experts of human rights in European vocational schools. It also introduces proposals for training courses on human rights ambassadors to be carried out in the countries participating in the project, taking into account national systems and cultures.
The book also contains examples of teaching units that show new approaches on how to identify and how to initiate new learning situations in technical education (chapter 5).
The text, in short, is a synthesis of the most significant and contextual contributions of the original project in English.
