Cristina Mercader participates in the “25 Years of InfoK” Conference

Professor Cristina Mercader, a member of CRiEDO, took part in the roundtable discussion on the educational role of audiovisual media at the conference “25 Years of InfoK: The Challenge of Informing Children in the Digital Environment”, held on October 23 at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

She joined journalist Laia Servera, professor Mònica Figueras, and professor José Alberto García Avilés to reflect on the educational role of the media and their contribution to children’s information, learning, and critical development.

InfoK, 3Cat’s children’s news programme, celebrated its 25th anniversary on April 23 with the organization of this conference, which brought together journalism professionals, researchers, and experts from the fields of education and communication to discuss the challenges of informing children in the digital age.

The programme featured three roundtable discussions focused on different topics of debate, as well as a keynote lecture delivered by Lewis James, editor of Newsround, the BBC’s children’s news programme, launched in 1972 and a pioneer in Europe. The event concluded with a participatory discussion involving children.

Among the participants were professionals associated with InfoK, including journalists Manel Alías and Laia Servera, as well as the programme’s current director, Núria Vilanova. The academic community was also strongly represented, with researchers from across Spain specializing in children and news, education, science communication, and psychology.
