The International University Conference on the Organization of Educational Institutions is an academic activity that, since 1990, has brought together, on a biannual basis, the teaching and research group of universities linked to the field of knowledge of educational organizations. This forum also brings together teachers from non-university levels and professionals in the direction, management and supervision of the technical units of educational administrations and non-formal institutions, thus strengthening the commitment of the organizations to the territories and to the idea of lifelong learning.
The motto of the Congress “Educational Organizations at the Service of Society” is, on the one hand, to highlight the instrumental nature of organizations with respect to the reality and needs of the society in which they are located and, on the other hand, to highlight the its commitment to the development of a fairer, more equitable and supportive society.
Organizations are institutions of and for society, created to meet its needs, which act in practice as support structures for the realization of community aspirations. We cannot think of advanced societies without developed organizations, nor improve society without improving its organizations, being able to defend, in this sense, that improving organizations is improving society.
Faced with approaches that understand organizations as structures for the maintenance of reality, we consider that they can be a pivot for transformation, as long as they intervene from an ethical, open and committed perspective. They do this when they commit to a democratic operation in their objectives, processes and ends, they encourage reflection and critical thinking, they act in an inclusive and not only integrative way, they are competent and not competitive, dialogical and committed to the environment and improvement social.
