Educational conceptions of teachers and expectations regarding training. Municipal schools of the Commune of Coyhaique, Chile

This thesis research assumes a necessity to generate discussion on teacher training and the expectations they have in training programs and how to assume or change the educational concepts that have, facing a reality of education, social policy and constant reforms and innovations. The research, conducted as part of the project AECID-Coyhaique, focused on teacher educational conceptions and expectations in the formation of municipal schools of Coyhaique commune in Chile. Fieldwork took place between the years 2009 and 2011 (year of project completion AECID-Coyhaique), during which were performed activities that could respond to the general objective: “Analyze the educational concepts and expectations regarding the training of the teachers participating in a training program in Coyhaique municipal schools”. To this end it was necessary to analyze what the educational conceptions of the teachers participating in a training program are and if the training allows a change of them; delimit the possible correlation between educational conceptions the teachers involved in this project have with other educational projects: Identify and assess whether teacher expectations, after participating in training programs, affect the change of conceptions; Identify the needs and problems of the training of teachers of Coyhaique. The study relates to the general problem of training programs and, more specifically, specific aspects related to AECID-Coyhaique project with the participation of teachers of mathematics and language / communication. The methodology of the study is qualitative and focused on the case of AECID -Coyhaique project, with the characteristic of being diachronic, ie analyzing a phenomenon that occurs over time, so multi-instrumental and participative focusing on school teachers participating in the training courses developed by the project. Scientific interest or relevance lies in the contributions that can provide the research focused on a group that is essential for the development of educational work, teaching staff, while allowing the industry to understand and analyze the experience in the participation of a training program. The results of this research are to continue to allow debate, discuss and reflect on the training planned and developed in isolated contexts of Chile, its impact on the reality and educational conceptions of teachers themselves.
