The changes made to higher education due to the EHEA have made it an obligation to reappraise and redefine the whole teaching-learning process, in which the student has become the true protagonist of his/her education process. This new education model establishes tutorial action as the fundamental core by which the student must be accompanied through all of the key moments of transition, be guided in the learning promoted, have their personal autonomy promoted, be helped to attain the development of his/her professional skills and be guided through the search for employment. The new Statute on the University Student establishes among its various articles that there is a need to adapt tutorial programmes and tutorial activities to the needs of disabled students.

Although most public universities in Spain have been working for years on care for disabled students, few have designed and/or adapted specific tutorial actions to these students.

In this context, it makes sense for this project to be conducted, whose objective is to define and initiate the implantation of a tutorial action plan for disabled students at the UAB. As part of the same, a Practical Guide will also be produced, which will be aimed at teaching staff and should serve as a work tool for lecturers/tutors whose students include those with disabilities. Both the tutorial action plan and the Practical Guide will consider the diversity of disabled students and areas of knowledge.

The general objective of the project is to design a tutorial action plan for disabled students, associated to that which has already been defined by the UAB, that collects and considers the specific needs of students with disabilities and is adapted to the requirements of the new European Higher Education Area, its main addressees being the students with disabilities enrolled at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In recent years, and like other universities, the increase in disabled students has been constant as demonstrated by the statistics that are published annually by the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia. At the UAB, the last year has seen the enrolment of a total of 249 students with disabilities.
