The article "Problematic use of ICT in teenagers" has been published in the Electronic Journal of Educational Research (REDIE) by Anna Díaz-Vicario, Cristina Mercader and Joaquín Gairín Sallán, members of the EDO Group (UAB).

The article works and investigates the habits of ICT use by Spanish teenagers between 12 and 17 years old. To do this, a concurrent mixed methodology is used, using convergent quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (interviews and focus groups) techniques. Specifically, 906 questionnaires, 135 interviews and 5 focus groups were conducted.

The results confirm that ICTs have a wide presence in the daily life of Spanish teenagers and the use they make out of it, which is extended, can generate negative effects in the academic, social and family environment of young people. Can’t speak of a generalized problematic use, although as a phenomenon to study, so that prevention and awareness actions must also be contemplated.
