New article on sustainability and the impact of communities of practice in organizations

CRiEDO professors and researchers Joaquín Gairín and Saida López Crespo, together with Jesús Martínez Marín, José Ignacio Artillo Pabón, and Daniel Giménez Roig, have published a new scientific article entitled “Sustainability and Impact of Communities of Practice (CoPs) in Their Organizations: A Case Study” in issue 30 of the Basque journal “Gestión de Personas y Organizaciones Públicas (Public People and Organizations Management)”.

The article examines the conditions, impact, and sustainability of communities of practice (CoPs) within public administration. It analyses three long-standing experiences and considers two additional cases to validate the findings, drawing on available documentation as well as a questionnaire and interviews with the individuals responsible for these initiatives.

The results confirm the conditions and effects identified in the existing literature, while also extending them by highlighting the importance of the organizational dimension, effective implementation, strategic alignment, and the conscious management of their life cycle. The study also reveals shortcomings in systematic evaluation, sustained commitment from management structures, and participation that is not always voluntary, as it is often driven by the organizational structure itself.
