Cristina Mercader, professor and member of CRiEDO, has been selected to represent the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) at the event “AI for Social Impact”, organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). The event aims to foster scientific collaboration between Spain and India in the field of artificial intelligence from a Social Sciences perspective.
The event will take place from September 21 to 25 and will also bring together faculty representatives from institutions belonging to the Alliance of 4 Universities: Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The meeting seeks to encourage reflection and discussion on the potential of artificial intelligence as a positive force for society through holistic and multidisciplinary contributions—from the social sciences and humanities to engineering, education, health, the arts, and economics. These perspectives will help advance an ethical, sustainable, and human-centered approach to AI development. Participants will take part in panel discussions to explore shared pathways for leveraging AI as a tool for social transformation.
Professor Mercader’s contribution will focus on the impact of AI on education, the preparation required for both teachers and students, and the opportunities AI offers for social transformation. Her contribution draws on the findings of several AI-related projects currently being developed at the center, particularly EdU-InA and PrIA.
