This paper analyzes whether it is feasible to account for the cognitive mechanisms that guide the emergence of biases in social thinking through the detection of semantic possibilities. To this end, the authors draw on the principles of Johnson-Laird’s theory of mental models, with the aim of illustrating, in this particular case and by way of example, gender stereotypes.
